The Nepal Pharmaceutical Association (NPA) is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of the pharmaceutical industry in Nepal. The association is committed to promoting the development of the industry, advocating for the interests of its members, and ensuring the availability of quality medicines to the people of Nepal.
Recently, the NPA conducted a rigorous process to select candidates for its major positions. Despite receiving positive responses from many candidates, some did not respond to the request for participation. Ultimately, the association was able to gather information from several qualified and experienced individuals who are committed to advancing the pharmaceutical sector in Nepal.
Bishnu Regmi, one of the
interested candidates, shared his vision and priorities for the association.
Regmi has a higher degree in pharmacy (M.Pharm or equivalent) and has been
working at the College of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Bharatpur
Chitwan for 10-15 years. He has been involved in the management and
availability of medicines and vaccines, teaching and training pharmacists and
assistant pharmacists, and advocating for the importance of rational use of
medicine.
Regmi's notable achievements
include being nominated as a focal person during a Remdesivir clinical trial
conducted by the National Human Rights Commission of Nepal. He also established
a regional pharmacovigilance center at his hospital and continuously works
towards improving hospital pharmacy.
Regmi's vision for the NPA
includes uplifting the pharmacy profession and exploring opportunities with
different stakeholders involved in the industry. He advocates for the
implementation of Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP), Good Manufacturing Practice
(GMP), and Good Community Practice (GCP), as well as advocating for the role of
pharmacists in procurement and supply chain management. He believes that
networking with national and international organizations is crucial for
exchange programs and professional development.
Regmi's top three policy
priorities are to advocate for the implementation of GPP, GMP, and GCP;
advocate for the role of pharmacists in procurement and supply chain
management; and network with national and international organizations for
exchange programs. He also plans to support and encourage professional
development opportunities for NPA members and advocate for the interests of the
pharmaceutical industry and the NPA at the local, national, and international
levels.
Regmi believes that member
engagement is essential to the success of the NPA. He proposes connecting with
members through various resources like online or monthly bulletins and physical
meetings once every three months. He also stresses the importance of monitoring
policy implementations and making necessary corrections when needed.
In terms of improving different
areas of the pharmaceutical sector, Regmi suggests exploring opportunities for
clinical trials, advocating for the implementation of GPP, GMP, and GCP, and
advocating for the role of pharmacists in procurement and supply chain
management. He also believes in establishing connections with national and
international organizations for exchange programs and professional development
opportunities.
