The Nepal Pharmaceutical Association (NPA) has recently undergone a leadership transition process led by Pharmashastra. The candidates who expressed their interest in various positions were contacted individually, but unfortunately, some did not respond despite showing interest. One of the candidates who did respond is Rajan Manandhar, who is interested in the position of tresurer. Manandhar holds a higher degree in Pharmacy and has been engaged in academics/hospital pharmacy for the past 10-15 years, with 8 years of experience as a Pharmacy In-charge. He has notable achievements in different publications and oral presentations.
In terms of his vision for the
NPA, Manandhar aims to promote policy reform, timely revision, and the creation
of the concept of Pharmacy as a profession. He also aims to maintain
professional safety and understanding among different sectors of the
pharmaceutical field, uplift Pharmacy as a profession, and promote
decentralization. To achieve these goals, he plans to create an organization
with a work plan and activities that can reach all professionals. Additionally,
he proposes encouraging the culture of the NPA office as a common platform for
all pharmacists to come together, along with a dedicated phone line and website
for the organization. He also plans to effectively create and manage funds.
Manandhar's top three policy
priorities, if elected, would be to recognize Pharmacy Profession as an integral
part of local level health service provider, provide strong recommendations on
suggestions on amending "Hospital Pharmacy Guidelines" and
implementation, and ensure the availability of life-saving medication and
scientific pricing of drugs.
Regarding professional
development, Manandhar proposes to provide training on different skill
development for young and fresh graduates, along with organizing seminars,
webinars, and CME programs. He would also like to organize talks and seminars
on different issues related to pharmacy and the pharmacy profession.
When it comes to advocating for
the interests of the pharmaceutical industry and the NPA at the local,
national, and international levels, Manandhar emphasizes an integrated approach
and policy level. He aims to develop a dedicated phone line, well-managed
websites, and social community sites to engage with NPA members and ensure
their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
Finally, Manandhar shares his
thoughts on various areas of the pharmaceutical sector and how he would play a
role in improving them. He emphasizes the importance of research and
development, manufacturing and quality control, sales and marketing, regulatory
affairs, intellectual property rights, ethics and compliance, professional development
and training, public health healthcare policies and legislation, and
collaboration and partnerships. He believes that a collaborative effort with
all stakeholders can lead to significant improvements in these areas.
